The Great Leap (downwards)
A letter written on an illustrated flyer advertising Dr. Carver’s High-Diving Horse, Klatawah!, and the Girl in Red, a popular fairground attraction that began in the 1880s and lasted through the mid 20th century, with a changing cast of performers. William “Doc” Carver’s daughter-in-law, Sonora became a fixture on Atlantic City’s Steel Pier, and her memoir became the basis for the film Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken.
