“de RM” is Vicente de Rego Monterio; the inside illustrations look like they’re by another artist, though, and to my eye look very much like Frans Masareel, who I think was doing a lot of French book illustration work at that time. That kneeling man appears almost as-is in some of FM’s own woodcut novels.
